Unit 4: The tipping point.


A tipping point in my life was when I enrolled in college. I had always wanted to finish high school and major in modern languages. The first time I came to the university I was very excited and knew a new chapter of my life was about to begin, it is not easy but one day, I will graduate.

Vocabulary:

  1. Transmission: The transmission of knowledge is very important.
  2. Mavens: My siblings are computer mavens. When I don't know how to use it I always call them
  3. word-of-mouth: I found out about this month by word of mouth.
  4. epidemic: WhatsApp is a social epidemic
  5. Generate: Discrimination generates hate
  6. Get a hold of: I've been trying to get a hold of you to know if you are good. 
  7. consumed by: Lately, I've been consumed by work. 
  8. win over: I will win my mom over to buy me that toy.
  9. Profiled: Trujillo is profiled as a merciless dictator
  10. Root: The root of having good grades is studying hard. 
  11. go a long way toward: I went a long way toward graduating.
  12. Holds: Hard work holds for me
Grammar clauses of result:

such + that:  
It was such a hard exam that everybody failed.

so + that:
John is so intelligent that he skipped 2 grades.
John runs so quickly that nobody could catch him.
